What happens to your store's data if you uninstall or delete your account
If you want your store's data out of Restoc, there are two routes. Delete your account in Settings > Account and everything stored about your store goes at once, or uninstall from your Shopify admin and Shopify's data-erasure request about 48 hours later clears it here automatically.
Two ways your store's data leaves Restoc
An inventory app reads your products, your stock levels and your orders. That is real access to grant for a reorder alert. There are two routes out, and both are plain.
- Delete your account in Settings > Account. It takes a two-step confirm. Then everything stored about your store goes in one pass. Your login goes with it: you sign in with an email address and password, and that record is part of the account.
- Uninstall from your Shopify admin. Uninstalling ends billing. Shopify's data-erasure request arrives about 48 hours later and deletes the store's data held here automatically.
There is a third case. Some stores connect by pasting an Admin API access token from a custom app made in their own admin. In that case there is no Restoc install sitting in your admin to remove. The in-app deletion is the route, and it clears the stored token with everything else. The custom app itself stays yours to revoke in Shopify.
The trade-off is time against effort. Uninstalling asks nothing more of you, but it leaves the data in place for roughly two days while Shopify's request makes its way over. Deleting in the app happens at once. There is no grace period and nothing held back, so treat it as final.
What each route ends, and when
| Route | What it ends | When |
|---|---|---|
| Delete account in Settings > Account | Your account, the Shopify connection and its access token, every SKU, sales record, alert and report, plus any active Shopify charge, cancelled first | At once, after a two-step confirm |
| Uninstall from your Shopify admin | Billing, then the store's data held here when Shopify's erasure request arrives | Billing at uninstall, data about 48 hours later |
| A store connected with a pasted Admin API token | Nothing to uninstall, so deletion runs from Settings > Account and takes the stored token with it | At once, from inside the app |
| Switch off email alerts in Settings > Alerts | Alert emails to your address, while your account and your data stay in place | Until you switch them back on |
What deletion here does not reach
Deletion is scoped to what Restoc holds. Two things sit outside it.
Your products, inventory levels and orders live in Shopify. Restoc only reads them. Deleting your account changes nothing in your Shopify admin: your catalogue, your stock levels and your order history stay exactly where they were.
Alerts that already went out are also outside it. A reorder alert email sits in your inbox. A Slack alert, if you are on Growth or Pro and set a webhook, sits in your channel. Both are yours to clear. Deleting the account stops any further alert being sent, because the alert email address and any Slack webhook URL you set are part of the alert settings that go with everything else.
Where the data sits until you delete it
Restoc is hosted on Amazon Web Services, in a single region alongside the app. Pages are served through CloudFront. The Postgres database stays in its region. There is no choice of data region.
What is stored is narrow. Tracked SKUs carry a title, your own SKU code, the Shopify variant id, current stock, lead time and the computed reorder point. Sales records carry a quantity, a date and the Shopify order reference, used to calculate sales velocity over your chosen window.
Then there are the settings you typed in: your store-wide velocity window of 7, 14 or 30 days, the lead time you set per SKU, and, on Pro, any per-SKU velocity window override. Restoc also records which setup steps your account reached, meaning account created, store connected, first sync and first lead time saved, and when each happened, so a stalled setup can be found rather than guessed at. No customer names, addresses or payment details are stored at any point, so there are none to delete when you go.
Before you press delete
Sales history is kept while your account is open. It feeds the velocity calculation behind each reorder point. Delete the account and that history goes with it. There is no separate archive to fall back on.
So three things to weigh first.
- Export the weekly reorder report to CSV. It lists the SKUs below their reorder point with a suggested order quantity. The CSV is yours to keep once it is off the app.
- Write down your lead times. The lead time you set per SKU is your input, not Shopify's data. It is deleted with the account, and a new one starts without it.
- Consider the lighter option. If you may come back, switch email alerts off in Settings > Alerts and leave the account in place. Nothing is deleted, and nothing lands in your inbox.
For the field-by-field list of what is stored and why, read the security page. This page sticks to the mechanics of leaving.
Questions
If I uninstall the app from my Shopify admin, does my store's data get deleted?
Yes, without you filing anything. Uninstalling from your Shopify admin ends billing. Shopify then sends a data-erasure request about 48 hours later, and that request deletes the store's data held here automatically: the Shopify connection and its access token, every SKU, every sales record, every alert and every report. If roughly two days is too long to wait, or if you connected by pasting an Admin API token rather than installing, use the in-app deletion instead.
How do I delete my store's data straight away?
Settings > Account in the app. It asks you to confirm twice, because the damage is not reversible. Then one action deletes your account and everything stored about your store at once. Any active Shopify charge is cancelled first, so deletion never leaves a subscription quietly running. There is no ticket to raise and no reply to wait on, and nothing is staged, queued or held for a cooling-off period.
What exactly gets deleted?
Everything Restoc holds about you and your store, in a single pass: your account and login, the Shopify connection, its access token and the app's API secret key, your tracked SKUs, your sales records, your reports, and the settings you typed in, meaning the lead time you set per SKU, your velocity window and your alert destinations. The sync bookkeeping goes too, meaning when your store last synced, whether its stock came from Shopify or sample data, and how much of your catalogue it read, as does the record of which setup steps your account reached. No customer names, addresses or payment details are stored in the first place, so there are none to delete. The security page lists every field and the reason it exists.
Does deleting my account also stop the billing?
It does. Any active Shopify charge is cancelled before the data goes, and uninstalling from your Shopify admin ends billing as well. Subscriptions are billed by Shopify on your Shopify invoice, not by a separate card payment, so your payment details stay with Shopify and never reach Restoc. There is no card on file here to remove.
What if I delete during the 60-day free trial?
The same routes apply, and the result is the same: the account and the store's data go at once, and any active Shopify charge is cancelled first. Every plan carries the 60-day free trial, so a trial store deleting on day three and a paying store deleting in month six take the identical path. The free trial page covers when the first charge lands and what the trial includes.
Is a copy kept, backed up or archived after deletion?
No. Data is kept while your account is open, because sales history feeds the velocity calculation behind each reorder point. Deleting your account removes all of it at once. There is no separate archive of your data to fall back on. Treat it as final, and export the weekly reorder report to CSV first if you want a record of what you were ordering.
If I come back later, can my old sales history be restored?
No, because nothing was kept to restore. A new install starts as a new account. You connect the store again, then set up the inputs again: the lead time per SKU, and your sales velocity window of 7, 14 or 30 days. Reorder points are built from what the new connection reads, not from anything held over. If you think you may return, the lighter option is to switch email alerts off in Settings > Alerts and leave the account in place.
Do my alert destinations go too, and what about alerts already sent?
The alert email address, and the Slack webhook URL if you are on Growth or Pro and set one, are part of your alert settings. They are deleted with everything else, and no further alert can be sent to either. Messages that already went out are a different matter: they sit in your inbox or in your Slack channel, which are yours to clear rather than ours. If you only want the messages to stop, switching email alerts off in Settings > Alerts does that without deleting anything.
