Set up stock threshold alerts by email and Slack webhook
Restoc fires a stock threshold alert the moment a SKU crosses its reorder point, by email and, on plans that include Slack, to a Slack incoming webhook. This article walks the setup end to end: lead time, velocity window, alert address, webhook, then the crossing itself.
Restoc is not open yet, so anything on this page about what it does is what it is being built to do.
What this covers and when you need it
Restoc compares each tracked SKU with its own reorder point. When a SKU crosses that point, a background job delivers the alert: an email to your alert address, and a message to Slack if you have saved an incoming webhook and your plan includes Slack as a channel.
You need this page in two moments. The first is setup, when you have connected your store and want the first alert to actually land somewhere a person reads. The second is after a silent week, when stock looks low on the dashboard and you want to know why nothing arrived.
The alert is only as good as the reorder point behind it, and the reorder point comes from two inputs you control: the lead time you enter for the SKU, and the sales velocity window you choose. Set those and the watching is automatic.
Set up an alert, step by step
- Enter the lead time for the SKU
Lead time is the number of days between placing the order with your supplier and the stock being sellable. Restoc uses your figure per SKU, not a generic timeline, so enter the one you actually see from that supplier.
- Choose the sales velocity window
Pick 7, 14 or 30 days. A short window follows recent demand closely, a long window smooths it out. Restoc uses the window with your lead time to compute the reorder point for that SKU.
- Check the address alerts go to
In Settings then Alerts, reorder alerts go to your account email from the moment you connect a store, until you change the address or switch email alerts off there.
- Save a Slack incoming webhook
On Growth and Pro, paste a Slack incoming webhook URL in Settings then Alerts. Restoc posts the alert to that webhook as well as the email address. Starter is email only.
- Read the reorder status on the dashboard
The dashboard shows current stock, days of inventory remaining and reorder status for each active SKU. Use it to confirm the reorder point looks like the number you would have worked out by hand.
- Let the crossing fire the alert
Nothing more to press. When stock falls through the reorder point, the background job sends the alert. The job is idempotent, so a repeated run does not send you the same crossing twice.
Alert channels by plan
| Plan | Alert channels | Tracked SKUs |
|---|---|---|
| Starter, $9 / month | Email only | 200 |
| Growth, $19 / month | Email and Slack | 1,000 |
| Pro, $29 / month | Email and Slack | 2,000 |
If no alert arrived
Work down this list before anything else.
- Lead time. No lead time, no reorder point, no crossing.
- Velocity window. Velocity is computed from sales in the window you chose, so a SKU with no sales in that window has little to compute from.
- Address. Confirm the email address in Settings then Alerts, and that email alerts are still switched on there.
- Slack. Confirm the webhook URL is saved, and that your plan lists Slack as a channel. Starter does not.
- Stock. Check the dashboard. If the SKU is still above its reorder point, the alert has not been earned yet.
The weekly reorder report is the other place to look. It lists every SKU below its reorder point with a suggested order quantity, in the app and as a CSV export, so you can see in one view whether a crossing happened and was missed, or never happened at all.
Still quiet after all that, email support@restocapp.com with the store domain and the SKU you expected to hear about.
Questions
Will I get the same alert twice a day until I reorder?
No. Alert delivery runs through an idempotent background job, so re-running it for the same SKU and the same threshold crossing does not send a duplicate email or a duplicate Slack message.
Can I send alerts to Slack only, and not to email?
Email alerts can be switched off in Settings then Alerts, and the alert email address can be changed there. Slack is available as a channel on Growth and Pro.
Which Slack URL do I paste?
An incoming webhook URL from your Slack workspace. Restoc stores that URL and posts reorder alerts to it; it holds nothing else from Slack.
Does changing the velocity window change when alerts fire?
Yes. The reorder point is computed from the velocity window you chose, 7, 14 or 30 days, and the lead time you entered for the SKU. Change either and the point moves, so the crossing moves with it.
Do I need Slack to be on a paid plan during the trial?
Every plan comes with a 30-day free trial and starting it needs no card. Slack as an alert channel is part of Growth and Pro; Starter is email only.
Where do alerts show up besides email and Slack?
The dashboard carries current stock, days of inventory remaining and reorder status for each active SKU, and the weekly reorder report lists the SKUs below their reorder point with a suggested order quantity.
